Are my pet relocation costs tax deductible?
If your moving expenses are considered tax deductible due to a
job relocation, then your pet shipping expenses would be included
with those expenses. Please consult a tax advisor for more
information regarding this topic.
Can my pets travel in the same carrier/crate
together?
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal Welfare
Act (AWA) states that "no more than two live puppies or kittens,
eight weeks to six months of age, that are of comparable size and
weighing 20 lbs. (9 kg.) or less each, may be transported in the
same primary enclosure via air carrier."
What types of pets does Pets Cargo move?

small pets such as ferrets, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc. We can
handle any type of small animal move in the United States or
internationally.
Do you move pets by ground transport or air
transport?
At Pets Cargo, we transport pets by air. Air transport is
the safest, fastest and least stressful method of pet shipping.
Some pet ground transport services move up to 15 pets at once with
several stops. This can take up two six weeks.
Can I travel on the same flight as my pet?
Yes, you can travel on the same flight but there are other
factors to be considered. Call Pets Cargo for more
information.
Can I ship my pets food, food/water bowls, toys, etc.
with my pet?
A leash and a medium size ziploc bag with food can be taped to
the top of the crate. Food and water containers must be the
type that attach to the crate. All other items must be shipped
separately.
Can I use my own crate/kennel for my pets travel?
Yes, as long as it is approved by the IATA for pet shipping.
Your pet needs to be able to stand up and turn around comfortably.
The crate/kennel may not be collapsible.
Should I give my pet a sedative?
No! Sedatives suppress the respiratory system of the pets and
often cause disorientation. Additionally, under sedation, an
animal's natural ability to balance and maintain equilibrium is
altered keeping the pet from bracing itself in the event of
turbulence. Several airlines will not accept your pet if they
are sedated.
How should I prepare the pet shipping crate?
Your crate should have two dishes attached to the front door.
A medium sized ziploc bag of food should be taped to the top of
crate. The crate should be lined with some sort of absorbent
material.
What can I do to prepare my pet for travel?
The most important thing you can do to acclimate your pet for his
upcoming move is to make sure he is comfortable in his crate.
To get your pet used to a crate, start by putting his favorite
treats in the crate and then progress to leaving him in the crate
for short periods of time while you are away. This will help
ensure a comfortable experience for your pet while helping to avoid
separation anxiety. It is important for your pet to be as
relaxed as possible during the flight.
What is the difference between excess baggage and air
cargo?
Excess baggage is when the pet travels in the belly of the plane,
and you are a ticketed passenger. Air cargo is when the pet is
shipped on the plane without you. In both cases, the pet
travels in the same climate controlled, pressurized area of the
plane.
Where is my pet during the flight?
Pets travel in a pressurized and temperature controlled area of
the plane. The temperature is the same as in the passenger
area and your pet can rest comfortably during their flight.
When the cargo system is used for pet travel, your pet is put on the
plane last and taken off first to assure safety. Animals
actually travel better this way because it is quieter and they will
rest in a darkened place.
How do airlines base their pricing for pets?
When flying unaccompanied, prices are based on the weight of the
pet, the dimensions of the carrier and the destination location.
How far in advance should I start planning my pet's
move?
You should start planning as far in advance as possible.
Pet shipping requires coordination and planning, and in some cases
can take weeks or months to coordinate your trip. For domestic
pet shipping, we recommend you start planning at least seven days in
advance. For international pet shipping, some countries
require certain documentation that can take up to six months.
Be sure to call way ahead of time for any international pet
transport.
Can Pets Cargo pick up/deliver my pet?
Pets Cargo can arrange for safe and reliable pick up and/or
delivery of your pet.
Will my pet need to change planes?
Whenever possible, we ship pets on non-stop flights. If a
change of plane is unavoidable, we will find the route that
minimizes travel time and provides maximum safety and comfort for
your pet.
Can I rent my pet's crate?
We sell crates but we do not rent them since the cost of return
shipment generally exceeds the value of the crate.
What if my pet needs to urinate during the flight?
Your pet's crate will be lined with absorbent material to soak up
any in-flight accidents.
